George R.R,. Martin is best known for his best selling series of novels, A Song of Fire and Ice, which as recently been adapted by HBO into the Game of Thrones TV series. In addition to writing epic fantasy novels, Martin also writes short stories and is a screenwriter for The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast (1987 TV show), The Outer Limits, and Game of Thrones.
George R.R. Martin's popular book saga, A Song of Fire and Ice turned HBO show Game of Thrones contain an immense amount of characters with complex hierarchical relationships. There are large, powerful houses, such as the Lannisters, or the Starks, and weaker, smaller houses such as the Redwynes or Tarlys, in addition to common folk and hedge knights that have sworn allegiance to these larger houses or live on the surrounding lands. The interactions between the larger houses, the smaller houses, and the lower social classes varies depending on geographical location (in the lands of Westeros and Essos). Due to the length of each novel in the saga, we decided to focus our research only on the first book in the series, Game of Thrones.
